Del Modelo Biomédico al Modelo Biopsicosocial: El desafío pendiente para la fisioterapia en el dolor musculoesquelético crónico
Resumen
El dolor es considerado un importante problema de salud pública, ya que representa el 70% de la asistencia a emergencia y una tercera parte de las consultas médicas. Los trastornos musculoesqueléticos corresponden a aproximadamente el 80% de las consultas de servicios de fisioterapia ambulatoria siendo el dolor el síntoma más frecuente.
El dolor crónico se clasifica como el dolor que persiste más allá del tiempo de curación del tejido normal, que dura más de tres meses y sin valor biológico aparente. El dolor crónico afecta a aproximadamente 60 millones de personas, que corresponden al 10% de la población mundial. Una encuesta que en 2006 estudió a 4.839 personas encontró que el 20% sufría de dolor crónico y muchos reportaron una reducción en la calidad de vida.
